Joint Replacement

Over time, joints—where cartilage connects two bones—can break down and cause pain, limiting your ability to enjoy an active lifestyle. If your condition has not improved from noninvasive treatment, you may benefit from our New York joint replacement and reconstructive orthopedic services.

At UHS, our orthopedic surgeons perform arthroplasty procedures to restore function and reduce pain caused by diseased or damaged hip, knee, or shoulder joints.

Enhancing Your Quality of Life

During a total joint replacement, your doctor removes your weakened joint and substitutes an artificial one that moves and works like a natural joint. This can help you return to function and get back to the activities you love.

At UHS, your surgeon will use surgical technologies and methods to perform your procedure and improve your health outcomes and mobility. Your surgeon may use a diagnostic tool like arthroscopy to determine the health of joint and find out if you are a good candidate for joint replacement surgery.

Joint Replacement Questionnaires

The American Joint Replacement Registry (AJRR) is part of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS). UHS participates in this registry to help us ensure that we are providing the best care by comparing ourselves to hospitals and providers across the country. Insurance companies also look at this data to ensure their patients are receiving the highest quality care.

As a joint replacement patient at UHS, you will receive questionnaires through email from AJRR about your pain, physical abilities, and overall health before your surgery and after in certain time frames (see below). Please fill these out honestly and completely, there are no wrong answers – it should take only about 5-10 minutes of your time. Your responses are private and protected like all of your health data with UHS.

We will be asking you about these emails and surveys at your appointments. If you do not have access to email or are having difficulty accessing the survey, we have the ability to assist you in the office. We thank you for helping us continue to improve and provide you and all of our patients with the highest level of care.
