United Health Services hospital named Commerce Chenango's 'Non-Profit of Year'

October 01, 2020

United Health Services' Chenango Memorial Hospital has been named “Non-Profit of the Year” by Chenango County's lead business advocacy and economic development organization.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve our Chenango community," said Drake Lamen, MD, president, chief executive officer and chief medical officer of UHS Chenango Memorial. "We are humbled by this recognition, which we feel is a direct reflection of the dedication and commitment of every person in our organization, and the integral role they each play in helping us fulfill our 108-year mission of service to this community.”

According to Kerri Green, president and CEO of Commerce Chenango, the Norwich hospital is deserving of the recognition for serving the needs of all people and enhancing the quality of life of those living in Chenango County.

“Despite the challenges we all faced this year, the dedicated professionals at the hospital never faltered,” Ms. Green said. “They stepped up to the challenge and provided excellent care to our community when we needed it most.”

In recognizing the hospital team, Ms. Green added: “Chenango County is truly a better place because of all of you, and we thank you for your dedication to your patients.”

The award was announced at Commerce Chenango’s recent virtual Soiree, celebrating local businesses and community supporters. Also recognized were NBT Bank as Employer of the Year; Hidden Springs Brewhouse as New Business of the Year; Andy and Mike Lagoe of Gilligans as Entrepreneurs of the Year; Shane Butler of the Chenango County Planning Department as Good Neighbor; Dave Shull as recipient of the Commitment to Community Award; and Julia Miller of Blueox as Emerging Professional of the Year.

The businesses, organizations and community members that received awards "make Chenango County the resilient and vibrant place that it is,” Ms. Green noted.

Following the virtual event, the award was physically presented to a group of socially distanced employees in a ceremony on the steps of the hospital’s Newton House.
