Team UHS walks for hope at Out of the Darkness event

October 06, 2026

Team UHS joined community members at Otsiningo Park on Sunday, October 5, for the annual Out of the Darkness Walk, demonstrating a shared commitment to hope, healing, and suicide prevention.

Walking side by side, UHS staff stood in support of suicide loss survivors, individuals struggling with mental health challenges, and everyone whose lives have been touched by suicide. The event provided an opportunity to honor loved ones who have been lost, raise awareness, and remind participants that no one has to face these challenges alone.

The Out of the Darkness Walk is part of a nationwide movement dedicated to increasing understanding of suicide and supporting prevention efforts. With suicide remaining the 11th leading cause of death in the United States, events like this play an important role in fostering education, reducing stigma, and encouraging meaningful conversations about mental health.

Funds raised at the Out of the Darkness Broome/Tioga Walk directly support research, advocacy efforts, and educational programs in schools, workplaces, and communities across NY.

By participating in the walk, Team UHS reinforced its commitment to supporting mental health, strengthening community connections, and helping create a future where more lives are saved through understanding, compassion, and prevention.
