The UHS Cardiac Rehabilitation program recently received three-year recertification by the American Association for Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) at all three sites: UHS Binghamton General Hospital, UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and UHS Delaware Valley Hospital.
UHS Cardiac Rehabilitation Binghamton General Hospital has maintained certification since 2004 and undergoes recertification every three years. The program’s Chenango Memorial site, which began serving patients in 2019, has earned its second AACVPR certification, while the Delaware Valley site has maintained certification since 2017.
Additionally, the UHS Pulmonary Rehabilitation program earned certification at UHS Binghamton General Hospital and UHS Delaware Valley Hospital. The program at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, which opened in 2025, plans to apply for certification later this year.
The Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at UHS Binghamton General Hospital incorporated with the UHS Cardiac Rehabilitation program in 2024; this is the first time the program has applied for and earned AACVPR certification. The Delaware Valley site has maintained certification since 2020.
“Earning these credentials reflects our commitment to meeting the most up-to-date, nationally recognized clinical standards,” said Christopher Mosconi, system program manager, UHS Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. “It’s a testament to our incredible teams, and the high level of patient care they provide every day.”
Medical research shows that effective cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs reduce mortality, helps patients recover quicker and improves their physical, mental and social functioning.
AACVPR program certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by the AACVPR and other professional societies.
As part of the certification process, the AACVPR reviews a 12-month program history of clinical, behavioral, nutritional and service outcomes to track improvements in patients’ overall health and fitness after completing the rehabilitation program. The association also evaluates the quality of the facility and the credentials of the program staff.
The most recent review shows that the cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation programs at UHS make a positive difference in the health outcomes of their patients. Both programs create individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs, allowing them to recover at the pace that’s right for them.
