Outreach
UHS Sports Medicine understands your need for convenient and timely access to care; whenever possible we will be there when you get injured. Our New York Athletic Trainers, Sports Medicine Specialists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Performance Coaches can be found on site at area colleges, high schools, sporting events, and community facilities. We cover local, professional, and club sports. Having UHS sports medicine staff on site allows for immediate evaluation and treatment of injuries. When appropriate, expedited access to the entirety of the UHS system is available.
Our New York Athletic Trainers and Sports Medicine Specialists are experts in working to prevent and treat musculoskeletal injuries, sports‐related illnesses and emergency situations. Athletic Trainers offer an unparalleled continuum of care and are a strong part of the UHS Sports Medicine team. Athletic Trainers practice under the direction of and in collaboration with physicians to work with individuals who are physically active or involved in sport participation through all stages of life. Athletic Trainers should not be confused with personal trainers or “trainers” who focus solely on fitness and conditioning.
Outreach Athletic Training
As a member of the UHS Sports Medicine Team, our New York Athletic Trainers and Sports Medicine Specialists work with local student-athletes/adult athletes as an on-site, School District or Venue dedicated, health-care provider. The Athletic Trainer is a nationally certified, NY State Licensed health care professional who is available for injury evaluation, management, triage and rehabilitation of both orthopedic injuries and general medical conditions. The Athletic Trainer is dedicated to providing the highest quality care and is an advocate for the health and safety of all athletes.
It is estimated that there are almost 1.5 million injuries to high school athletes per year. The National Athletic Trainers Association reports fewer injuries in high schools with a certified athletic trainer. Having a certified Athletic Trainer available should be a sports organization’s top priority in preventing injury.

UHS Sports Medicine has a strong presence in area high schools and in the community. Our New York Athletic Trainers and strength coaches educate athletes on the safe execution of workouts carefully designed to improve performance and decrease injuries. Coaches are one element of our larger UHS Sports Medicine outreach program, but are also available for individual or group classes. UHS Sports Performance coaches work to get the most out of each athlete, whether it be preventing injury, returning to action after an injury, reaching peak performance on the field, or at work.

Outreach Sports Performance

Portable UHS Physicals Squad
The pre-participation physical is an essential component of the care provided to athletes. New York State requires a new physical exam every 12 months for sports participation.
It can be a challenge maintaining compliance with state requirements for annual physicals. Given the size and integration of UHS Sports Medicine, we are able to offer our schools a comprehensive “Physicals Day” bringing all of our Providers, Athletic Trainers, Nurses, Performance Coaches and Administrators in to complete superior quality pre-participation physicals for all athletes in a fraction of the time.
You can download the pre-participation health history form here to fill it out prior to your physical.
