Buprenorphine waiver training offered to clinicians

May 02, 2018

Two UHS physicians will be the instructors in May for a free buprenorphine waiver eligibility training session for clinical providers.

The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 19, in the Conference Room of the Broome County Health Department, at 225 Front St. in Binghamton.

The trainers will be Peter Ronan, MD, medical director of New Horizons, and Julia Hunter, MD, MPH, assistant medical director.

To attend, you must sign up here by noon, Wednesday, May 16.

The training is designed specifically for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical residents.

To qualify for the authority to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid dependence, clinicians must complete the training.

This session is the first half of the minimum required eight hours of training; the second half must be completed online after attendance at the live training.

The program is presented by the New York State Department of Health and hosted by the Broome County Health Department and UHS.
