Important reminders for shoveling snow safely
Shoveling snow is hard work and can lead to a number of health risks for many people, from back injuries to heart attacks. The mix of cold temperatures and physical exertion increases the workload on the heart, which may increase the risk of a heart attack for some. According to the American Heart Association, even walking through heavy, wet snow can place strain on your heart. Learn more here.
Avoid slips and falls when weather turns bad
When snow and ice cover the sidewalks, driveways and parking lots and you need to venture outside, it's a good idea to take some basic winter precautions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that about 1 million U.S. adults are injured due to slips and falls every year, with the injury rate increasing significantly as temperatures decline. Read safety tips here.
