A planned, high-quality child care option for residents of the Southern Tier will be showcased on Feb. 22 when a ribbon-cutting ceremony introduces UHS Child Care on Main Street in Johnson City.

The event, scheduled for 2 p.m., is designed to highlight a new era in child care in the region, as a number of future students of the program, along with parents, teachers, elected officials and members of Team UHS, gather to bring attention to the new center.  Tours of the facility will be offered following the ribbon-cutting.

UHS developed the site through a complete renovation of a former supermarket, at 619 Main St. in the Westover area.  The center is expected to open in the coming weeks.  It will offer a highly rated curriculum and will serve the children of UHS employees and families from the greater Southern Tier community, from infancy through pre-kindergarten.  Hours of operation will be from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.

UHS’ partner in the operation of the center, Bright Horizons, has an exceptional national track record in developing and managing state-of-the-art child care facilities like this one.  Funding for the project has been provided by the UHS Foundation and by a state grant secured by Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.
