Putting patients first: UHS milestones and innovations in 2025

December 11, 2025

In 2025, UHS continued to transform healthcare in Greater Binghamton, meeting growing demand with expanded access, cutting-edge treatments and a steadfast commitment to patient-centered care. From major facility milestones to innovative technologies, UHS reaffirmed our commitment to providing exceptional care close to home.

Expanding access across the UHS System: New facilities and services

The UHS Wilson Main Tower, which officially opened in June 2024, set a new standard for care in Greater Binghamton during its first full year of operation. Building on last year’s momentum, UHS dedicated and opened the sixth and top floor of the new hospital in January. In July, we celebrated the final phase of the Wilson Main Tower project with the ribbon-cutting of the expanded Decker Emergency Department – adding 19 new private patient rooms to meet the growing demand for emergency services.

With these milestones, the UHS Wilson Main Tower is fully open and operational, standing as a symbol of healthcare access and innovation at the heart of our community. Nearby, UHS Pharmacy Johnson City served record volumes of patients, while UHS Child Care continued to provide convenient, trusted early education and child care for local families.

Advancement never stops at UHS. In 2025, we proudly achieved milestones and launched new projects across the UHS System, including:

  • UHS Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, NY broke ground on a transformative Medical Neighborhood project, which will add a new, four-story facility to house a wide range of services in a modern space.
  • UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, NY advanced its Medical Neighborhood initiative, improved access to specialized care, and welcomed Cecil M. Miller, III, as its new President & CEO.
  • UHS Senior Living at Ideal expanded on-site services with a new UHS Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation location at its Endicott campus.
  • UHS Home Care continued to lead the region in delivering healthcare at home as demand for these services grows.
  • UHS Medical Group expanded the UHS Upper Front Street location, opening its doors to primary care and physical therapy patients on December 15, with pediatrics scheduled to open early in the new year.
  • UHS Hospitals advanced cancer care through an expanded partnership with Broome Oncology. UHS Medical Oncology now provides enhanced, comprehensive cancer care from two convenient locations: UHS Wilson Square and UHS Binghamton General Hospital
  • Across the UHS System, from emergency care to specialty services, we served record-setting patient volumes in 2025.

Empowering our teams, strengthening our community

As we evolve our infrastructures and services to enhance the patient experience, UHS also invests in supporting our staff and uplifting our community. In 2025, we proudly:

  • Joined the Respect & Heal initiative, uniting healthcare leaders across New York State to protect the safety of frontline workers and ensure healthcare settings remain places of respect and healing for all.
  • Secured $3.9 million in multi-year funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to support nurses at every stage of their careers and improve patient outcomes. This funding advances our pursuit of Magnet Recognition from the American Nursing Credentialing Center (ANCC), a prestigious designation for excellence in nursing and patient care.
  • Initiated our journey to High Reliability Organization (HRO) designation, which means a commitment to getting things right each and every time, and making zero preventable harm part of every patient’s experience.

Beyond clinical care, UHS remains deeply committed to community well-being – from supporting local charitable events to the work of our UHS Population Health team, which assists our patients with non-clinical needs such as housing issues, transportation, and food insecurity.

We also announced a new partnership with Binghamton University, making UHS the Official Orthopedic Partner for Bearcats Athletics – working with student-athletes, coaches, and trainers to elevate athletic performance.

Recognition that sets us apart

UHS earned two high-level certifications from The Joint Commission, becoming the first locally to earn:

UHS Delaware Valley Hospital’s CT department was awarded a three-year accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR), the goal standard for medical imaging facilities and representing the highest level of quality and patient safety.

Additionally, UHS received numerous awards and recognition at both the local and national levels – a testament to the exceptional work and tireless dedication of our teams across the UHS System.

Innovation in action: Breakthroughs in patient care

UHS continues to embrace cutting-edge technologies, bringing advanced treatment options close to home. Our commitment to innovation was reflected in many key milestones, including:

  • Our Focused Ultrasound program, launched in 2024, treated its 50th patient in July and its 100th patient in December – far outpacing expectations. UHS remains the only healthcare system in Upstate New York to offer this incisionless treatment for essential tremor.
  • In March, the UHS Pulmonary team at UHS Wilson Medical Center completed its 100th procedure using the Ion, a robotic-assisted bronchoscopy tool revolutionizing lung cancer diagnosis, and will reach over 200 cases by the end of the year. UHS is the first healthcare system in Greater Binghamton to offer this technology.
  • UHS Delaware Valley Hospital and UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital installed state-of-the-art CT scanning machines, delivering clearer images, faster results, and improved access for patients – a critical advancement for rural communities where timely, high-quality diagnostic imaging can make a significant difference in care.
  • UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital opened a new Women’s Diagnostic Imaging Center, expanding access to essential screening services with advanced 3D mammography, bone density testing, and ultrasound services.

Looking ahead: Our commitment to the future

As the year comes to a close, UHS extends heartfelt thanks to our dedicated teams who ensure excellence in everything we do and to our patients and community for continuing to place your trust in us for your healthcare needs. Every milestone reflects our unwavering commitment to compassion, innovation, and excellence. Together, we look forward to shaping the future of healthcare – always with the patient experience at the heart of everything we do.
