UHS joins community partners to announce 'Respect & Heal" initiative
July 16, 2025
UHS is proud to announce it is joining the Respect and Heal Initiative. This campaign brings together healthcare leaders from across New York State to ensure all healthcare and clinical settings are rooted in mutual respect and healing.
This partnership underscores UHS’ deep commitment to protecting the safety of all frontline healthcare employees and the patients they care for. UHS stands alongside fellow healthcare systems, law enforcement agencies and public policy experts in working to eliminate incidents of harassment and violence in healthcare settings.
To mark the launch of this initiative, UHS hosted a press conference joined by Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti, as well as representatives from state and local law enforcement agencies. This united front demonstrates a shared commitment to ensuring safety and accountability for healthcare workers in all settings.
In recent years, UHS has taken significant steps to protect our own frontline staff members and patients through enhanced security measures including security and weapons scanning, visitor management check-ins and Peer to Peer debriefing for staff members impacted by workplace violence. These efforts reflect UHS’ ongoing dedication to ensure that the safety of our healthcare workers and patients is at the center of the compassionate and innovative care our teams provide.
Together with our community allies and the Respect and Health initiative, UHS will remain at the forefront of driving meaningful change to keep healthcare settings safe, respectful and a place of healing for all.
