Mayor’s proclamation honors registered dietitians

March 13, 2024

Johnson City Mayor Martin Meaney was in Binghamton on Wednesday to attend a recognition breakfast and officially proclaim March 13 as “Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day in Johnson City.”

Held in the Russell Community Room at UHS Binghamton General Hospital, the breakfast was held on the occasion of National Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day, a time to recognize the outstanding work of UHS’ System-wide team of dietetic professionals.

The mayor encouraged all citizens to recognize the contributions of registered dietitians and nutritionists, and expressed his appreciation for their commitment to promoting science-based nutrition in the hope of achieving optimal health for both today and tomorrow.

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day is observed each year on the second Wednesday of March.

These specially trained professionals help translate the science of nutrition into applicable information for people regarding their food and nutrition choices. They work in almost every field, including healthcare, education, fitness and the food service industry, to improve the public’s well-being.

UHS is home to a comprehensive Food & Nutrition Department and many dietitians who provide care and service to patients, visitors and staff, in venues ranging from hospitals to outpatient settings and more.
