At UHS, strong community partnerships are essential to delivering leading healthcare in our region. One of our long-standing partnerships is with Binghamton University, where key collaborations support student-athlete health, nursing education, pharmacy training and research initiatives.
Recently, UHS was proud to host a team of Binghamton University researchers in the new X-ray room at UHS Binghamton General Hospital. The visiting team included Hilary Becker, associate professor of Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies; Diane Butler, director of the Binghamton University Art Museum (BUAM); Joseph Leach, curator of the BUAM; and Jeffrey Pietras, associate professor of Earth Sciences.
With assistance from the UHS Imaging team, the group performed scans of two paintings from the BUAM collection. The X-ray provided a nonintrusive way to examine and analyze the artworks’ underlying materials, helping researchers gain deeper insight into the paintings and build a more complete understanding of their history. With these scans, the team successfully identified several areas of interest for further research.
