    St. Jude celebrity bartending fundraiser in Hancock

    UHS Delaware Valley Hospital President Rolland "Boomer" Bojo has been tapped as a celebrity bartender at the Hancock House Hotel.

    The event will benefit "Thunder 102 & 104.5 Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon!" 

    On Saturday, February 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., Boomer will be joined by other local celebrities, including Paul Ciliberto from Ciliberto & Friends, Cindy Ray from The Hancock Herald and more. 

    Registration is not required. Anyone can stop in for a tasty drink -- with or without alcohol -- to support Boomer and help raise money for a great cause. 

    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is dedicated to advancing cures for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude is one of the world's leading pediatric cancer research institutions.     An emotional support group devoted to newly diagnosed cancer patients, and those undergoing treatment, will take place on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

    The support group session will be held at the UHS Radiation Oncology Conference Room, located at 30 Harrison St., Johnson City.

    Survivors of Suicide Loss Day

    Saturday, November 20 is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope.

    *Please note, due to the pandemic and hospital guidelines, this event has moved to an ONLINE EXPERIENCE from 11am - 2pm on Saturday, November 20.

    International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is an event in which survivors of suicide loss come together to find connection, understanding, and hope through their shared experience. This event is for Survivors of Suicide Loss only, and is for those living in Broome or Tioga Counties.

    Pre-registration is required and there is no fee to participate. Registered individuals will receive an email with a meeting link to join prior to the event. Those registered by Monday, November 15, will receive a packet of information via posted mail with resources/materials to support the activities of the day.

    Each year, AFSP supports hundreds of large and small Survivor Day events around the world, in which suicide loss survivors come together to find connection, understanding and hope through their shared experience. While each event is unique and offers various programming, all feature an AFSP-produced documentary that offers a message of growth, resilience and connection.

  • Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention

    Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention

    UHS partners with the Broome County Office for Aging to bring this program to area senior centers, free of charge. 

    According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in three adults over the age of 65 fall each year. Treatment of injuries due to falls is the most expensive health cost, estimated 2015 by CDC to be 31 billion dollars per year in USA. 

    With regular practice, Tai Chi improves balance by strengthening muscles and coordination. At the same time, it strengthens the mind, thereby improving calmness and confidence in not falling. Thus, both physically and mentally, tai chi is an extremely effective exercise for fall prevention. 

    UHS Trauma Services and Injury Prevention will be at the Broome West Senior Center in Endicott, from 12 a.m. to 12 p.m., every Wednesday and Friday, starting May 8, 2024.

    Get dressed up, grab your candy bags or buckets, and come celebrate Halloween with UHS!

    The UHS Orthopedic Center is hosting its second “Trunk or Treat” event on Saturday, October 29 from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

    Trunk or Treat will take place in the parking lot of the UHS Orthopedic Center, located at 4433 Vestal Parkway East in Vestal.

    This event was developed to provide a safe and controlled environment for people of all ages to enjoy Halloween! 

    Employees and teams from across the UHS System have volunteered to decorate their trunks and hand out Halloween goodies.  

    In addition to "trick or treating,” children will also be able to take a walk through the “Spooky Hallows” tent (if they dare) and explore vehicles from the Vestal Police Department, Vestal Fire Department and NYSEG.

    This free, family-friendly event is open to UHS employees and the community.
