The DAISY Award
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide every day. The DAISY Foundation was established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes after he died from complications of the auto-immune disease ITP in 1999. During his hospitalization, they deeply appreciated the care and compassion shown to Patrick and his entire family. When he died, they felt compelled to say “thank you” to nurses in a very public way. To learn more, visit DAISYFoundation.org.
Please say thank you by sharing your story of how a nurse made a difference you will never forget!
The DAISY Nurse Leader Award
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Nurse Leader Award was created to highlight individuals whose roles do not typically include direct patient care, yet who play a crucial part in creating and sustaining an environment where compassionate, high quality care can flourish. This award recognizes leaders such as Nurse Managers, Directors of Nursing, Assistant Managers, Charge Nurses, Chief Nursing Officers, Informatics Nurses, and Educators/coordinators. The Nurse Leader Award will be given out on a yearly basis in May and it will happen during Nurses week.
Nominations for the DAISY Nurse Leader Award typically come from staff, who describe how a leader supported them in delivering excellent, compassionate care. While the selection process mirrors that of the individual Nurse and Team DAISY Award, using blinded nominations that align with our UHS values, the standards for this award are tailored to leadership roles.
If you have any questions regarding either award, please contact Heather Edwards at (607) 240-2700 Ext. 49903 or send an email to daisy.award@nyuhs.org.
