The UHS Feed the Need Giving Garden is up and running

May 15, 2026

What began as an idea grounded in compassion is now firmly planted at the UHS Wilson Medical Center campus. Behind 41 Arch Street, the UHS Feed the Need Giving Garden has officially become a reality—an exciting new chapter in UHS’ commitment to addressing food insecurity in our community.

On Wednesday, May 13, a multidisciplinary group of UHS team members came together in partnership with VINES to bring this vision to life. Together, they built ten raised garden beds, including two that are fully wheelchair accessible, ensuring that the space is welcoming and inclusive for all who want to participate. The collaboration reflected the very spirit of the garden itself: teamwork, shared purpose, and a belief that meaningful change happens when we work side by side.

The Giving Garden is designed with intention. Once planted and harvested, the produce grown here will be distributed through the UHS Food Pantry directly to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity across our community. As an extension of UHS’ Feed the Need food insecurity programming, the Giving Garden represents a hands-on, sustainable way to support neighbors while deepening our community outreach efforts.

While the raised beds are now standing, this work is just beginning. Gardening is an ongoing commitment, and the Giving Garden will continue to grow and thrive through the care of volunteers. Whether you’re an experienced gardener, someone eager to learn, or a team looking for a meaningful on-site engagement activity at the Wilson campus, there is a place for you in this space!
