UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Earns National Recognition for Cleanliness

July 23, 2026

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital has been recognized as one of the cleanest hospitals in the United States, earning a prestigious 5-star cleanliness rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

The designation places UHS Chenango Memorial among just 396 hospitals nationwide and only seven hospitals in New York State to achieve the highest possible rating for hospital cleanliness, underscoring the organization's commitment to providing a safe, welcoming and high-quality care environment for patients and families.

“I'm very proud of our entire Environmental Services team, and also our culture, which is so focused on keeping our hospital clean,” said Scott Goldman, Director of Environmental Services.

The achievement was recently highlighted by Becker's Hospital Review, a nationally respected healthcare publication that recognized hospitals across the country receiving CMS' top cleanliness score.

CMS cleanliness ratings are derived from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey, a standardized national survey that measures patients' perspectives on their inpatient hospital experience. The cleanliness score reflects feedback from patients regarding how well their hospital rooms and bathrooms were kept clean during their stay.

“This 5-star rating serves as a testament to our hospital’s ongoing commitment to excellence and reinforces its reputation for delivering exceptional care close to home for the communities we serve,” said Cecil Miller, President and CEO of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital. “Achievements like this happen because of the commitment, pride and teamwork demonstrated across every department of our hospital.”
