Our latest Sunshine Award recipient is Abigail Buckley

A program to recognize the extraordinary care and contributions of our non-licensed nursing support staff continues at UHS with Abigail Buckley, Main Tower 5, UHS Wilson Medical Center, who was named the latest winner of the Sunshine Award! Abigail received the Sunshine Award, along with a bouquet of sunflowers in recognition of her accomplishments, and enjoyed cookies during the celebration.

The nursing assistant was nominated by a colleague. In the nomination letter, the colleague describes the excellent growth Abigail has shown in her role, graciously accepting feedback and adapting patient care in an often challenging and fast-paced environment.

The colleague goes on to recount a moment in which Abigail jumped in to care for a patient during an emergency situation in which the patient experienced a sudden ruptured blood vessel. Abigail held the patient’s head and hands, talked him through the experience, and provided a calming and reassuring presence as the patient was treated.

“Abby is a nursing assistant who lives the UHS Values every shift that she comes in to work. She is always kind, positive, and ready to assist in anything on the unit,” the colleague wrote. “I cannot begin to say how proud I was to observe her actions. She truly exemplifies the spirit of nursing.”

Patients, families, and colleagues are able to nominate any of our non-licensed support staff based on our UHS Values of Respect, Teamwork, Innovation, Trust, and especially Compassion. Nominations will be collected via paper - look for nomination kiosks and boxes at all UHS locations, via email at sunshine.awards@nyuhs.org, and electronically.

All nominees will be recognized, but each month, one nominee will be selected for a special recognition.
