The Hancock Fire Department honored a remarkable “chain of survival” that recently saved the life of 40-year-old Jennifer Wormuth during a sudden cardiac arrest. The recognition highlighted the coordinated efforts of local first responders and the advanced clinical care provided within the UHS system.
Rolland “Boomer” Bojo, President and CEO of UHS Delaware Valley Hospital and Vice President of the Hancock Fire Department, participated in the emergency response and in the ceremony recognizing the team that made this outcome possible.
“Cardiac arrest saves are never the result of one individual,” Boomer explained. “They are the result of teamwork — dispatchers, bystanders, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, law enforcement, emergency department teams, cardiology specialists, ICU staff — all working together with a single goal: to give someone another chance at life.”
After initial stabilization, Wormuth was transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center, where emergency and cardiac specialists carried forward the critical care that began in the field. Representing the hospital teams at the ceremony were UHS CVICU nurses Gretel Poggioli and Brianna Carlson, Nurse Manager Marlo Francisco, and Scott Gurney, Program Manager for EMS & Medevac Operations.
Wormuth and her husband, Aaron Davis, expressed deep gratitude for the volunteers, EMS providers, dispatchers, law enforcement, and UHS clinical teams who played a role in her survival.
“Everyone involved that day… will forever be heroes to us,” Davis said.
The ceremony served as a reminder of the shared mission across UHS and our local communities: providing exceptional care, no matter where the call begins.
