UHS' partnership with AARP promotes safe driving

March 30, 2026

UHS continues to support community injury prevention efforts through a partnership with AARP, offering Smart Driver courses.

The program is not only for older drivers, but any driver to review safe driving and get an insurance discount.  Topics include changing roads, changing vehicles, changing health, and navigating those and other changes.

Recently, Bethlehem Emmons-Post, Trauma Program Manager, led an AARP Smart Driver course at the Broome West Senior Center, helping attendees refresh their driving skills and learn strategies to stay safe on the road.

As a certified trauma center, UHS is committed to injury prevention education in the community, and programs like this directly support that mission. The partnership with AARP allows UHS to bring evidence-based safety education directly to local seniors and other drivers.

Another Smart Driver course is scheduled at the Harpursville Senior Center on April 13 and April 20. Anyone interested in participating can call (607) 763-6327 or reach out directly to the senior center for more information.
