Give the gift of life this summer amid critical blood shortage

July 30, 2026

The American Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage, putting the nation's blood supply at risk and threatening the care of patients who depend on lifesaving transfusions every day. From trauma victims and surgical patients to those undergoing cancer treatments, many individuals rely on readily available blood donations when emergencies arise.

Summer is often one of the most challenging times of the year to maintain a stable blood supply. With vacations, busy schedules, and school breaks disrupting regular donation routines, fewer people donate, even as the need for blood remains constant. This seasonal decline can make shortages even more severe.

The need for donors is urgent, every eligible donor can make a meaningful difference. A single blood donation can help save multiple lives, making it one of the simplest and most impactful ways to support patients in need.

The American Red Cross is encouraging both returning and first-time donors to schedule an appointment and give blood.

All who donate in the month of August will receive a $20 Amazon Gift Card by email. Donors can schedule an appointment to donate by calling 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) or by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, or by making an appointment for one of the upcoming county blood drives at the following locations:
