Give the gift of life this National Blood Donor Month

January 21, 2026

January marks National Blood Donor Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations and honoring the donors who help save lives every day. Winter is one of the most challenging times of year for maintaining a stable blood supply—holiday schedules, winter weather, and seasonal illnesses often lead to dangerously low donation numbers. Yet the need for blood never stops.

National Blood Donor Month is the perfect time to roll up your sleeve and give the gift of life. Whether you're a first-time donor or a long‑time supporter, your donation matters—especially now.

UHS encourages those who can donate to do so. Blood donations are needed by a wide variety of patients in healthcare settings, including individuals with cancer, sickle cell disease or chronic diseases, such as anemia or hemophilia. Burn victims and other trauma patients may also require blood products during treatment.

You can help turn awareness into action at the UHS Binghamton General Blood Drive on Tuesday, January 27, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
