Celebrating our first responders: UHS hosts EMS Week appreciation lunch

May 21, 2026

National EMS Week, observed May 17–23, celebrates the dedication of emergency medical services professionals. To show appreciation, UHS hosted a special lunch on Wednesday, May 20, to acknowledge and honor the incredible work of our EMS partners and their vital role in serving our communities and patients.

The event brought together EMS crews from across the region, offering them a chance to relax, enjoy a delicious meal, and connect with colleagues and healthcare partners. It was especially rewarding to see EMS crews engaged and appreciative as UHS hospital staff and senior leadership took the time to stop by and personally express their gratitude for the work they do each day.

EMS truly is the backbone of the healthcare system. For many patients, their journey begins with EMS—providing critical care, stabilization, and safe transport to the hospital. Without the strength and dedication of our regional EMS system, many patients would not receive timely emergency care when they need it most.

The work EMS crews perform every day is demanding and often goes unseen, but it has a profound impact. Their commitment, skill, and tireless efforts save lives and make a meaningful difference in our communities. This week—and every week—we want them to know how much they’re valued as an essential part of the healthcare system.

EMS Week, celebrated nationwide during the third week of May, recognizes the critical role paramedics, EMTs, and other pre-hospital care providers play in saving lives and supporting public health.

At UHS, that dedication is met with heartfelt appreciation. EMS is often the first point of contact for patients in crisis. Their expertise and quick action make a huge difference in outcomes, and it’s an honor for our staff to work alongside them.

UHS extends a sincere thank you to all EMS professionals for their unwavering commitment and compassion. Happy EMS Week!
