Auxiliary services remain integral to UHS’ future

April 29, 2024

The commitment, support and service excellence of hospital auxiliaries have been a significant part of the healthcare experience in our communities since the founding of hospital care in the Greater Binghamton region in the 1890s. UHS’ auxiliary services help maintain our reputation for high-quality, comprehensive patient care by providing funding for equipment and programs, as well as willing hands for patient services.

Over the years, thousands of dedicated auxilians have been a part of the UHS mission by devoting their time and energy to support the work of UHS Hospitals. Throughout the last 100 years, our auxiliaries have raised over $1 million to donate across departments and areas such as Neonatal ICUCardiac CareDialysisMedical Rehab, and the new UHS Wilson Main Tower, to name just a few. Their generous support has also provided scholarships for new generations of healthcare professionals, operated popular gift shops for the comfort of visitors, and aided staff members in the delivery of care through volunteer service.

The UHS Binghamton General Hospital Auxiliary was founded in 1896, and the UHS Wilson Medical Center Auxiliary in 1929. As of March 2024, the two auxiliaries merged into one unified UHS Hospitals Auxiliary and will continue to provide services at both UHS Binghamton General Hospital and UHS Wilson Medical Center. “The long-standing history of our auxiliaries has always been pivotal to patient care, providing hospital equipment and essential service support. This merger will help the auxiliary continue their affiliation with the hospitals and support our patients and communities by enhancing care and service at both UHS Hospitals locations,” said Jeanne M. Carangelo, manager of Volunteer Services.

For over four decades, the UHS Foundation has been in partnership with the auxiliaries to help support innovation, service and quality at UHS. Cory Jacobs, executive director of the UHS Foundation said, “The UHS Foundation is honored to continue the partnership to raise money for UHS. Our auxiliaries’ tireless commitment, dedication and passion are unlike any other volunteer organization with which I have been a part. And I am excited to see these two dynamic organizations join together for an even greater impact on all the patients we serve.” The auxiliary merge helps the UHS Foundation maintain its vision to become the region’s health-related charitable organization of choice.

The UHS Hospitals Auxiliary will continue to play a very important and highly visible role by improving our care and services and helping our hospitals remain leading providers of medical care in the region.

Our auxiliary is composed of people from a wide variety of backgrounds who believe in and are committed to the work we do. To join or learn more about our auxiliary, please visit nyuhs.org.
