UHS Junior Culinary Academy
UHS Stay Healthy Kids is introducing a new program! The UHS Junior Culinary Academy is a great way to get kids in the kitchen, learning how to cook delicious, healthy meals and snacks.
Classes are once a month beginning in September. You can sign up for one class or come each month. Classes are $20 each, per child and kids will be provided with an apron and recipes to take home, along with the food they have made.
Have allergies or special dietary needs? Let us know in advance and we can accommodate you. Classes are taught by a UHS Chef and UHS Registered Dietician.
Classes run from 6-8pm and will take place on:
- Thursday, September 19
- Introductions and Breakfast. This will include kitchen rules, safety, how to use a knife, and measuring and reading a recipe. Kids will prepare eggs (omelets, fried, scrambled), pancakes, homemade granola.
- Thursday, October 24
Italian Night. Kids will prepare pasta, red sauce, pesto and breaded chicken cutlets.
- Thursday, November 21
Stir Fry. Children will learn about cutting ingredients properly while preparing stir fry sauce, learning technique (stir fry, and searing) and making rice.
- Thursday, December 19
Dinner. We will cover setting the table and make salad dressing, seared chicken & pan sauce, roasted potatoes and sautéed vegetable medley
Class size is limited, ages 8-18, must register for each class at 607-763-5092.
