UHS to host suicide survivor’s event
Saturday, November 17 is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day, the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope.
UHS will hold a Survivor Day event in the Russell Community Room at UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Mitchell Avenue, at 11 am. The event is help in cooperation with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and B.C. SAFE (Broome County Suicide Awareness for Families and Educators).
For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is an opportunity to discover that they are not alone in their experience of losing someone they know and love to suicide.
The event will include a screening of an AFSP-produced documentary for of “A Daughter’s Journey” an AFSP-produced documentary that follows Sarah, a young adult, through her story of milestones, family coping and positive growth after the loss of her father. The film shares hope, connection, resilience in the aftermath of a suicide loss.
