UHS, HANYS host roundtable on opioid crisis

December 01, 2017

UHS in Greater Binghamton joined with the Healthcare Association of New York State Dec. 1 to hold the Binghamton Opioid Roundtable.

Professionals from a number of HANYS-member healthcare institutions in the region participated in the afternoon discussion at UHS Binghamton General Hospital.

These included key clinical and administrative leaders from UHS.

HANYS representatives were seeking input from healthcare providers who deal with the opioid crisis on a daily basis, with the discussion focusing on the challenges hospitals and doctor's offices face in attempting to care for patients with substance use disorders.

Provider roundtables offer a forum where healthcare leaders, physicians and others can share the front-line challenges they encounter and seek potential solutions.

Topics on Dec. 1 included primary prevention, crisis management, chronic-condition treatment and the availability and effectiveness of community resources.

"HANYS is hosting this series of discussions across the state, with UHS Binghamton General being one of the locations," said Alan Wilmarth, administrative director of Behavioral Health at UHS.

“The association was seeking input from representatives of the healthcare continuum on all aspects of the epidemic and its impact on people's lives locally," he noted.
