UHS Chenango Memorial celebrates members of the nursing team

May 09, 2019

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital recognized two members of their nursing team in honor of National Nursing Week and National Nursing Assistant week.

Melissa Mabie, RN, BSN, CLC was recognized with the CMH “Nurse of Distinction” 2019 award. Here is what Julie Parish, RNC, BSN, Service Line Manager, Women’s Health Services had to say about Melissa:

"Melissa came to Maternity in June of 2017 and has been an asset to the unit in many ways. She is always professional and takes great pride in providing safe, quality care. She has received many positive comments from her patients in regards to her caring attitude.
She has also shown great growth through her professional development in the 2 years she has been with us. She has completed her Fetal Monitoring course, the Neonatal Resuscitation program, completed her BSN in September of 2018, obtained her Certification in Lactation Counseling in December of 2018 all in her quest to give her patients the best possible care and education.
She teaches Basic Life Support to CMH staff, attended the AWHONN conference in Syracuse in April to learn and share the latest research and education in the field of women’s health, obstetrics and neonatal nursing.
She is also volunteered to be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the EPIC implementation and will be an asset to coaching her peers as she has used EPIC in the past.
Melissa has been very willing to work extra shifts, nights, weekends—whatever is needed for the unit and is truly appreciated for all of her efforts."

Sierra Stoppkotte, HCA was also honored with the “Nurse Assistant of Distinction” 2019 award. Here is what BJ Tomsic, RN, Service Line Manager Acute and Cardiac Care said about Sierra:

“In recognition of the work that Sierra Stoppkotte performs on an ongoing basis in her role as a health care assistant/unit secretary in the Intensive Care Unit at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, she was nominated by the CMH nursing leadership team to receive the “Nursing Assistant of Distinction” award this year as we celebrate National Nurse’s Week.
Sierra goes above and beyond in her efforts to assist the patients she serves. Her kind, caring, and cheerful demeanor builds great rapport with all those she comes into contact with. Sierra exemplifies what compassionate connected care entails. She can often be heard singing a song to her patients, offering encouraging words, providing them with laughter, or a shoulder to cry on. Word has it she is a fine hair dresser, as well.
She is a reliable part of the team, often adjusting her schedule to meet the needs of her patients and of the organization. She provides a smile and sets a great first impression for all those who travel through the ICU.
We are fortunate to have Sierra as part of the ICU team. Her dedication to our professional standards, great personality, and the safe, quality care that she provides to our community make her this year’s “Nursing Assistant of Distinction.”

Congratulations to both women on their distinctions!
