UHS celebrates during hospital and nursing observances
UHS is celebrating National Hospital Week, National Nurses Week and Nursing Assistants Week with a wide range of activities through May 18.
Observances of Nurses Week and Assistants Week are combined, through May 12, under the banner of the “UHS 2019 Nursing Week Celebration.”
Nursing leaders are recognizing and celebrating the work of nursing teams in providing care and service to patients in a number of clinical settings, from hospitals to doctor's offices.
This year the week of May 12 to 18 is National Hospital Week, so many activities and recognitions for UHS employees are also rolled into the celebration.
“Blessing of the Hands” ceremonies will be held on May 7 at UHS Vestal and May 8 at UHS Wilson Medical Center, UHS Binghamton General Hospital and UHS Delaware Valley Hospital.
The Professional Nurses Association of South Central New York will hold its 37th annual Nurses Day Breakfast, from 7 to 9:30 a.m., on Thursday, May 9, at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Conference Center in downtown Binghamton.
UHS staff also will receive snacks, treats and baskets of goodies in recognition of their hard work and devotion to quality patient care, leaders said.
Posters will be displayed at various times through May 17 at UHS facilities calling attention to quality improvement initiatives.
National Hospital Week falls in the week that includes May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
Nurses Week is celebrated from May 6, Nurses Day, through May 12.
This year's Nurses Week theme is "4 Million Reasons to Celebrate," a reference to the four million registered nurses actively providing care and service around the United States today.
"Celebrating Hope and Healing" is the theme of Hospital Week.
