United Health Services and the American Heart Association are teaming up for the Check It! Challenge and the Southern Tier Heart Walk. On this page, you'll find information on both events.

How to Participate in the Check It! Challenge
Check. Change. Control.
- Commit to Check your blood pressure at least twice a month
- Change to healthier habits
- Control your blood pressure!
Through the Check It! Challenge the American Heart Association (AHA) and UHS are encouraging individuals, community organizations, and employers throughout the region to focus on improving blood pressure in the Check It! Challenge.
The Check It! Challenge is based on Check. Change. Control., an evidence-based hypertension management program empowering participants to take ownership of their health using blood pressure self-monitoring. The program incorporates the concepts of remote monitoring and online tracking as key features to hypertension management.
Organization or Workplace:
- Identify a Check It! Champion at your site.
- Visit www.heart.org/southerntier or scan the QR code below to access the participation form and an AHA staff member will be in contact to select the blood pressure program that is right for your organization and provide you with tools, training, and resources.
Individuals:
- Join UHS in the Check It! Challenge and log your readings in the Check. Change. Control. Tracker.
- Access the Tracker at www.ccctracker.com/UHS
- UHSBP: Community Members & UHS Patients
- UHSEM: UHS Employees
- BingU: Binghamton University
- Check your blood pressure at a public health screening event or at blood pressure kiosk near you (kiosks are available at most pharmacies).
- Commit to Check your blood pressure at least twice a month, Change to healthier habits, and Control your blood pressure.

While we are all disappointed that the 2020 Southern Tier Heart Walk will not be happening on Sunday due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we can still cross the finish line strong in support of the American Heart Association by participating in the 2020 VIRTUAL Heart Walk on Sunday, April 26!

John M. Carrigg, president and chief executive officer of UHS and chairperson of this year’s walk, shared plans for the major event, saying that the goal is to raise $380,000 to benefit the work of the American Heart Association.
