Celebrating life on National Cancer Survivors Day

June 01, 2018

CancerSurvivDaySquaresmall.jpgIt's an important day in the year for many people across the Southern Tier and around the world who are living with a diagnosis of cancer.

It's June 3, National Cancer Survivors Day, a time to celebrate victories and reaffirm life.  This year's observance is the 31st annual.

Dinners, cookouts and other events will be held in hundreds of cities and towns around the globe, bringing attention to the ongoing challenges that cancer suvivors face, while at the same time celebrating courage and survival.

More Americans than ever are surviving cancer. However, despite their growing numbers, cancer survivors often must contend with rapidly rising drug costs, inadequate insurance coverage, difficulty finding or keeping employment and the challenge of ongoing physical, psychological and financial struggles.

Organizers of the observance emphasize:  "Life after cancer is about more than just counting years. It’s about making those years count."  Watch UHS News for more information about this meaningful event.
