Mark Caramore

Mark Caramore, MD

Physical Medicine

Dr. Caramore grew up in a busy house with 5 children, all participating in different sporting events and clubs every season.  He enrolled at Siena College and majored in Spanish language, but felt there was something more out there for him professionally.  As the son of two local physicians in the Albany area, Dr. Caramore grew up immersed in the world of medicine.  He benefited from two savvy mentors in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation as he was deciding on pursuing a career in medicine.  He attended SUNY Upstate Medical University where he was active in student government, intramural basketball, and rehab-specific clubs.  After graduation, he attended the University of Virginia Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program and further developed his skills.

He is the medical director of the Sandiford Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at UHS, a comprehensive rehab program where patients participate in a rigorous therapy curriculum of 3 hours per day.  He enjoys caring for inpatients suffering from numerous diagnoses including strokes, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, joint replacements, and amputations.  In addition, he is director of the EMG lab at the Vestal Orthopedic Center, performing nerve testing every afternoon.  His other clinical interests include spasticity management with Botox injections, amputee care/prosthetic management, concussion management, and electrodiagnostics.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his twin daughters, running, lifting weights, and playing rec basketball with Binghamton University undergraduates.
