Description

Join us for the 5th Annual Fall Sports Injury Management Equipment Removal Training Symposium.

FREE for area athletic trainers, coaches, EMS providers, covering physicians/providers and administrators.

The UHS Sports Medicine staff will host their fifth annual athletic equipment removal training event for area EMS, coaches, athletic trainers and medical providers covering sporting events. These providers include Primary Care Physicians, Sports Medicine Physicians, Orthopedic Surgeons and Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners.

Participants will gather at Binghamton University Events Center for an introductory lecture followed by hands on practice with sports equipment removal. More importantly, everyone was focused on working together towards a common goal.

According to Jay Hubbard, MS, LAT, ATC, PES, UHS Sports Medicine Field Manager/Lead Athletic Trainer, “It’s so important for professionals on the sidelines to understand how to safely remove protective sports equipment in case of a catastrophic athlete injury. The EMTs, coaches and athletic trainers who are the first on the scene need practical experience in knowing what to remove and how.”

The event will feature an overview of the individual characteristics of different equipment, and demonstrations of how to cut and remove the most popular brands of athletic protection gear. A simulation of a true incident and the appropriate response will be carried out by attendees.

Said UHS orthopedic surgeon and Medical Director of Sports Medicine Micah Lissy, “Catastrophic sports injuries are exceedingly rare, but require high stakes and coordinated treatment for successful outcomes. By partnering with all key players in the sideline management of injuries, we can train to work together with the common goal of providing the best care possible for our athletes.”

UHS is a training resource for health care professionals in the region, offering continuing education credits to athletic trainers, physicians and EMTs for this event.
