UHS Chiropractic adopts 'Choosing Wisely' guidelines

January 30, 2019

UHS’ Chiropractic Department has announced its participation in the "Choosing Wisely" campaign, an effort to provide evidence-based recommendations that support doctors and patients in making decisions about care.

The campaign is led by the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation.

"These recommendations are consistent with how we evaluate and treat orthopedic and spinal conditions," said Douglas Taber, DC, of UHS Chiropractic. "They were developed by the ACA’s Committee on Quality Assurance and Accountability and approved by the American Chiropractic Association’s Board of Governors."

Approval followed an extensive search of the most current scientific evidence on management and treatment options and months of careful review and consideration, he said.

Dr. Taber, a member of the editorial boards of the Spine Journal and the International Journal of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, adds that he has personally reviewed the research behind these recommendations.

"We at UHS have always taken pride in accountability when evaluating and treating our patients, and adopting these recommendations is designed to spark conversations between patients and their clinicians about the best, most appropriate care," he noted. "This approach results in high-value, cost-effective treatment and improved clinical outcomes.”
