UHS co-sponsoring Drawing Marathon

January 22, 2018
UHS will be co-sponsoring one of the community’s most exciting arts events this coming spring. It’s the third annual Drawing Marathon, scheduled for March 23 and 24 at Binghamton University and co-sponsored by the Department of Art and Design, the Harpur College Dean’s Office, the University’s Fleishman Career Center, the Vice Provost’s Office for Undergraduate Education, and Commercial Art Supply, in addition to UHS.

The Drawing Marathon offers University students, alumni and community artists, ages 18 and older, a unique opportunity to compete for 24 hours to produce a finished figure drawing at the University’s Art Museum. The marathon will take place from 10 a.m. on March 23 to 10 a.m. on March 24, with regular breaks.

To apply: Artists should send one .pdf file with 10 samples only of their best figure drawings, along with the following contact information: name, address, phone number and e-mail. Send application to: drawing@binghamton.edu. There is no fee. A jury will select the strongest 10 to 12 competitors among the applicants. Only 10 to 12 artists will be selected and invited to compete. The competition is open to all students, alumni and community artists ages 18 and older. The deadline for submitting an application is March 1. No applications will be accepted after that date.

Awards: Two cash prizes will be awarded on the morning of March 24: the jury prize of $500 and the people’s prize of $250. The people’s prize will be awarded on the basis of qualitative comments received by visitors to the marathon as well as statements posted on the University’s Art Museum Facebook page.
