September 06, 2018

Logo for LumaUHS is a major partner of the 2018 edition of LUMA, a free projection-arts event to be held Sept. 7 to 9 at a series of locations in downtown Binghamton.

And the PrEP Program of UHS Primary Care Binghamton is a co-presenting and afterglow sponsor of the largest projection fine arts and entertainment festival in the United States.

LUMA is expected to draw thousands of people to the downtown area.

Organizers said: "LUMA is a view-at-your-own-pace outdoor art gallery of animations. That means you can come any time during the festival and view all the projects. They each repeat on a loop. So you could even come at 11 p.m. and catch the whole thing."

During the last three annual events, thousands gathered to celebrate the bold confluence of technology and visual arts.

One of the goals is to help establish Greater Binghamton as a national destination for cutting-edge visual arts.

This year top creative individuals and groups from various media, such as projection mapping, film, VR, AR and immersive theater, will unite to explore how they can push the boundaries of these various forms.

Organizers say the event will be "over 594,000 lumens bright," and will include a storytellers' conference, six brand-new projects, five internationally renowned artists and a 44-piece orchestra from the Binghamton Philharmonic.

There will be daytime as well as after-dark installations, and local restaurants will feature unique dining opportunities.

UHS Primary Care-Binghamton is the community's leading healthcare center providing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a method of preventing HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout a person's body.
