Team UHS turns out for Heart Walk

April 09, 2018

Members of Team UHS were walking, raising money and planning the Hearty Party to raise even more as the Southern Tier Heart Walk drew to a close Sunday afternoon.

As of the Friday night before the walk at the SUNY Broome Ice Center, 181 employees and friends had signed up online to walk as part of Team UHS, putting UHS first among the top 20 walking companies.

Organizers of UHS’ participation praised employees, and their family members and friends, for enthusiastically pitching in as volunteers and turning out to walk.

UHS Stay Healthy folks staffed the Kids' Zone, an area in the Ice Center featuring face-painting, balloon-sculpturing and other children’s activities.

UHS Stay Healthy Kids live cartoon characters Rex and Roxy showed up, as did volunteers with the Mended Hearts support group.

A group picture of Team UHS was taken.

Before they stepped out for their choice - either a 1.5-mile trek or a three-miler - participants enjoyed healthful treats and encouraged their fellow walkers.

The annual event benefits the work of the American Heart Association.

Watch nyuhs.org and http://intranet.nyuhs.org for updates on the final number of people who turned out as part of Team UHS, plus the total dollars raised in pledges.

The Heart Association also will announce community-wide totals.

Plus, watch for details about the upcoming theme-basket drawing and Hearty Party, to be presented by UHS on Friday, May 11.

Money raised from the annual dinner event will be added to Team UHS' total in Heart Walk pledges.

Life is why we walk.
