Scores of UHS volunteers were honored April 18 for giving of their time, talents and energies to enhance the healthcare experience for patients and patients' family members.

With the theme "Caring Together: Touching Lives Forever," a luncheon was held at Traditions at the Glen April 18 to recognize the women, men and teenagers who volunteer at UHS Wilson Medical Center, UHS Binghamton General Hospital and UHS Senior Living at Ideal.

During the past year, 473 volunteers gave 52,272 hours of service at those three UHS-member institutions.

During National Volunteer Week, held April 15 to 21, UHS celebrates the members of its team who provide helpful, compassionate services to add comfort and cheer to the days of hospital patients and nursing home residents.

The volunteers come from an impressive array of backgrounds and work in nearly every department at the hospitals and in the senior living areas.

Each interaction a volunteer has with a patient, visitor or staff member represents a commitment to brightening the lives of others.

Other UHS volunteer recognitions:

At UHS Delaware Valley Hospital, volunteers were honored at an appreciation luncheon, also held on April 18.  At the Walton hospital, 23 volunteers contributed 2,332 hours of service.

At UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital, a luncheon will be held on Wednesday, May 23, at the Canasawacta Country Club.  At the Norwich hospital, 102 volunteers turned in 14,800 hours of service.
