Empty Bowls: Sumptuous banquet for noble cause
If you've got an early-spring appetite for a wide selection of great food, and want to help others less fortunate at the same time, Empty Bowls is the event for you.
This year the fundraiser will feature a truly incredible lineup of delectable delights.
There will be a mashed potato bar, featuring freshly smashed red-skin potatoes and your choice of Texas chili, chicken Mediterranean, crisp bacon strips, chicken spiedies or beef stroganoff, and cheese or butter toppings.
A Thai food station will offer Pad Thai: rice noodles, eggs, chicken breast, scallions and chilis, tossed with a Pad Thai sauce; along with red curried tofu and broccoli served over jasmine rice.
There will be four soups to choose from, plus a salad station, beverage station and a variety of fresh fruit.
Also don't pass up the dessert bar, which will include cookies, cupcakes, yogurt parfaits and triple-berry pound cake.
What's more, you'll have a fantastic souvenir to take home with you: a handcrafted pottery bowl made by Clayworks at the Roberson Museum.
You can enjoy your own soup in it at home, or simply add it to your pottery bowl collection to look at and admire!
The 14th annual Empty Bowls event is presented by UHS and the Compass Group.
It will be held on Wednesday, April 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Community Room, Eckelberger Tower, UHS Wilson Medical Center; and on Thursday, April 5, from 11:30 to 1:30, Russell Room, UHS Binghamton General Hospital.
You can show your support for those in need with a $25 donation. Of that amount, $20 benefits the work of the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and $5 goes to the UHS Foundation's Stop Hunger Fund.
Get your tickets early. A limited number of bowls is available.
The luncheons are open to the UHS team and to the public.
