Congresswoman tours UHS addiction treatment areas

October 17, 2017

Alan Wilmarth of UHS Behavioral Health, greets U.S.
Rep. Claudia Tenney at UHS Binghamton General
Hospital Oct. 17.

U.S. Rep. Claudia Tenney toured the Behavioral Health facilities at UHS Binghamton General Hospital as part of an Oct. 17 event focusing on the national and local opioid addiction crisis.

Rep. Tenney, a Republican who represents the 22nd congressional district, met with members of the UHS team to learn about the wide range of addiction treatment services provided by UHS in the Southern Tier region.

UHS leaders asked Rep. Tenney to support healthcare organizations by continuing to advocate for addiction treatment resources and to protect Medicare and Medicaid, the sources of 46 percent of hospital reimbursement.

Alan Wilmarth, administrative director of Behavioral Health at UHS, conducted the tour for Rep. Tenney and Robert Simpson, legislative assistant from the congresswoman’s office.

Mr. Wilmarth is scheduled to join Rep. Tenney and other speakers for an “Opioid and Heroin Community Forum,” at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Binghamton University's Symposium Hall, at 85 Murray Hill Road in Vestal.

The evening event is free and open to the public, and advance registration is not required.
