Nursing home caregivers to be honored at luncheon Oct. 5

More than 50 professionals in the field of nursing home and long-term care will be recognized at the ninth annual Long-Term Care Employee of Distinction Awards Luncheon, to be held at noon, on Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Holiday Inn-Downtown in Binghamton.

The employees have been selected by the facilities at which they work to receive special recognition from the Long-Term Care Administrators of the Southern Tier, a region-wide professional association, which is hosting the luncheon.

A keynote address, "We Are a Mission," will be presented by the Rev. Corey VanKuren, manager of Pastoral Care at UHS.

"The 59 honorees represent 12 skilled nursing facilities in Broome, Tioga and Chenango counties," said Michele Gordon, RN, administrator of UHS Senior Living at Ideal and principal coordinator of the event. "We are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize their dedication and call attention to the great work they do."

Ms. Gordon said long-term care professionals provide a valuable service that should never be taken for granted.

“These individuals offer essential services that contribute to our long-term care residents’ safety, comfort, health and well-being," she said. "They are the backbone of the long-term care system, providing hands-on care, managing building maintenance, planning activities and serving nutritious meals."

The Long-term Care Administrators of the Southern Tier provides a forum for administrators to discuss issues facing long-term care, and to share survey and best-practice techniques.
