Infant Mortality Awareness Month

September is Infant Mortality Awareness Month. UHS is working with the Mothers and Babies Perinatal Network of South Center New York to increase awareness of infant mortality and to get moms the resources they need to stay healthy and have a healthy baby.

Visit the safe crib display in the UHS Wilson Medical Center Harrison Street Lobby to learn about providing baby with a safe sleeping environment.

Visit the Community Baby Shower on Saturday September 26 across from the Stay Healthy Center at the Oakdale Mall. UHS and other community organizations will have displays and seminars.

Other things moms can do:

  • Get early prenatal care and practice family planning.
  • Go smoke-free: babies should have a smoke-free environment.
  • Ensure that your baby receives their “Well-Baby Exams”: an important way to monitor your baby’s growth and development and to develop a relationship with your baby’s doctor.
  • Get your baby vaccinated: you have the power to protect your baby from dangerous illnesses like measles, tetanus and hepatitis. and baby healthy.
