New UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Emergency Services system serves patients faster

Improved workflows, a more robust staffing schedule and expanded treatment areas are hallmarks of the new patient experience at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room. The hospital has implemented these changes to ease the wait in the emergency room for patients and their families.

“Word about our excellent medical staff and the large array of services available at Chenango Memorial Hospital is increasing patient volumes in our Emergency Department. To ensure that our patients are seen as quickly and efficiently as possible, we have re-engineered our processes within the department,” stated Peter E. Gordon, MD, FACEP, the hospital’s Emergency Services Medical Director.

“In 2013, the Emergency Services Department set a goal for 55% of our patients to be seen by a provider within 30 minutes. Throughout the year our staff has worked hard to hit that mark, eliminating bottlenecks and improving performance, processes, staffing and physical space to better serve our patients.  Since January, 2013, our ER has been seeing 73% of our patients within 30 minutes.  And we are still working to keep our patients at the center of our care, always looking for opportunities to serve them even better, more effectively and efficiently.”  Dr. Gordon added, “Personalized, patient-centered care is what our patients want and deserve. Their time is valuable and we are committed to demonstrating that they can rely upon us at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital as a regional hub of high quality healthcare performed by a full staff of highly trained individuals – right here, close to home.”

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is well positioned to provide many of the health care services area residents need. In addition, the hospital provides effective, appropriate connectivity to higher levels of care.  Dr. Gordon pointed out that the hospital has the right people and services to diagnose patients quickly and get them the care they require for optimal outcomes.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is a member of UHS, a locally owned, not-for-profit, 916-bed hospital and health care system serving the Greater Binghamton region from more than 60 locations around New York’s Southern Tier.
