UHS Delaware Valley Hospital Honors Guarnieri

January 03, 2018

SallyDean2017.jpgThe Sally Dean award is UHS Delaware Valley Hospital’s most prestigious award. It was created in memory of registered nurse, Sally Dean, who during her tenure at Delaware Valley, treated her patients, their visitors and her co-workers with true dedication, commitment and compassion.

This year’s winner was Joan Guarnieri, RN. Joan is the hospital’s Vice President of Ancillary Services. Joan began her nursing career in Trenton, NJ moving to Wilkes Barre, PA and working At Geisinger Medical Center, before coming to Walton’s UHS Delaware Valley Hospital, 31 years ago.

During her tenure at Delaware Valley, Joan has served in many capacities. Initially working in the hospital’s ICU, ER and medical floor, she was consistently promoted: serving as the Director of In-service Education, Director of Nursing, Director of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer to her current role as Vice President of Ancillary Services.

In this role, Joan oversees the hospital’s imaging center, cardiopulmonary services, laboratory, physical rehabilitation services, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation program and the hospital’s relatively new service: pain management.

Joan is always looking for new and innovative ways to bring more services to the residents the hospital serves and enhancing the quality of those services. Her success is evident in the advances the hospital has made in the types and quality of services offered.

These many attributes were outlined by Paul Summers, Delaware Valley’s President and CEO, when presenting Joan with the award.

Under her guidance, in recent years, the hospital has received its cardiac rehabilitation certification; began offering MRI services, which have been expanded to two days per week; brought 3D mammography capability to the local area; began to offer home sleep studies and is currently in the process of finalizing the hospital’s laboratory linkage to the Mayo clinic.

Joan, who worked with Sally Dean, was honored to be singled out for the award. “Sally was very dedicated and a hard worker. She was a role model for a lot of people. When I came to DVH, I was so impressed with the entire nursing staff and I believe Sally’s dedication was an example for others.
