UHS' PrEP Program is major sponsor of LUMA

August 30, 2017

The PrEP Program of UHS Primary Care-Binghamton is a major sponsor of the third annual LUMA, a free projection-arts event to be held Friday, Sept. 1, at a series of locations in downtown Binghamton.

The largest projection fine arts and entertainment festival in the United States, LUMA is expected to draw thousands of people to the downtown area.

For the debut production last year, 30,000 attendees gathered to celebrate a bold confluence of technology and visual arts.

In a statement this year, organizers said: “LUMA is a festival founded by artists for artists, with the wholehearted embrace of an entire city.”

The 2017 production will start at the corner of Court and State streets at sundown and continue through much of the evening on Sept. 1.

Animations will be projected at regular intervals on the sides of six downtown buildings, on Court, State, Washington, Collier, Exchange and Chenango streets.

One of the goals of the event is to help establish Greater Binghamton as a national destination for cutting-edge visual arts.

In case of rain, the festival may be held Sept. 2 or 3.

UHS Primary Care-Binghamton is the community's leading healthcare center providing pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a method of preventing HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout a person's body.
