UHS Delware Valley Hospital Heart and Diabetes Awareness Event

Those who have heart conditions and/or diabetes or those who have questions about these conditions will have the opportunity to learn more about them at this event, featuring speakers, information stations, screenings and more.

The program will be held at New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Avenue in Walton, on Thursday, March 23 from 4-7 p.m.

Featured speakers include Dr. Angela Freeman, a podiatrist at UHS Podiatry in Chenango Bridge. Dr. Freeman will talk about foot care for those with diabetes. Dr. Luis Rodriguez-Betancourt, a family medicine physician at UHS Delaware Valley Hospital, will speak about wound care.

Information stations will include information about diet and nutrition, exercise, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings. DVH nurses will be on hand to answer questions and Susan Malia, RN, BSN will have information about the certified cardiac rehab program she coordinates at Delaware Valley. Cathy McLachlan, certified dietitian/nutritionist will be manning a special station that will feature actual food and attendees will be asked to guess the number of carbohydrates in each dish. The person coming closest to guessing the total carbs in all the dishes will win a $50 gift card. Gayle Klein, RPh, pharmacist at the hospital's Community Pharmacy, will have information and answer questions about medications. Anita Newman, RN is the Patient Care Coordinator at UHS Primary Care in Walton and will have information about how to access needed services and her work with individual patients to help them be healthier.

This event is meant to be informal; giving attendees the opportunity to speak directly with the staff about their conditions and questions.

Refreshments, giveaways and door prizes will also be offered.
