Volunteers honored for service with a smile

UHS will mark National Volunteer Week by honoring the men, women and teenagers who give of their time as healthcare volunteers during the year.

UHS annually celebrates the members of its team who provide selfless, compassionate service to benefit hospital patients and nursing home residents.

The volunteers come from an impressive array of backgrounds and work in almost every department at the hospitals and on the geriatric campus.

During 2015, a total of 672 volunteers gave 70,909 hours of service at UHS Binghamton General Hospital, UHS Wilson Medical Center and UHS Senior Living at Ideal.

Also during 2015, a total of 100 volunteers at UHS Chenango Memorial donated more than 15,000 hours of service, and 42 volunteers at UHS Delaware Valley turned in 2,517 hours of service.

A luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Thursday, April 14, at Traditions at the Glen, to recognize the volunteers who serve at UHS Hospitals and Ideal.

Luncheons also will be scheduled at UHS Chenango Memorial and UHS Delaware Valley.

National Volunteer Week started April 10 and continues through April 16.

The UHS theme for the observance this year is: "For All You Do, UHS Appreciates You."
