UHS Foundation encourages donations on #NYGivesDay

The UHS Foundation is participating in a worldwide charitable giving event by encouraging community residents to make donations to the Foundation as the holidays approach.

#GivingTuesday is a global day of charitable giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. In connection with the observance, the New York Council of Nonprofits has established #NYGivesDay, a 24-hour fundraising challenge for nonprofit organizations across the Empire State.

Celebrated the Tuesday following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized annual shopping milestones of "Black Friday" and "Cyber Monday," #GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many people focus on holiday and end-of-year contributions.

The New York Council of Nonprofits, in partnership with the United Way of New York State, has announced a fundraising goal of $10 million for #NYGivesDay, which this year will happen on Nov. 29, the same day as #GivingTuesday.

"We would love for you to partner with us on Nov. 29," said Cory S. Jacobs, executive director of the UHS Foundation. "We will be at the Oakdale Mall that day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be giveaways and drawings as you participate in this one-of-a-kind day of giving."

Donations will benefit the work of the UHS Foundation, which supports quality healthcare programs and services at UHS.

#GivingTuesday connects diverse groups of individuals, communities and organizations around the world for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving.

The global fundraising challenge was created by a team at the 92nd Street Y, a cultural center in New York City that, since 1874, has been bringing people together around the values of service and giving back.

A team of "influencers" and founding partners joined forces, collaborating across sectors, offering expertise and working tirelessly, to launch #GivingTuesday.

They have continued to shape, grow and strengthen the phenomenon year by year.

Building on the momentum of the #GivingTuesday movement, #NYGivesDay aims to energize New York’s nonprofit community and inspire heightened giving from their supporters.
