UHS to Feature Nancy Lopez at Women's Health Event

World Golf Hall of Fame Member Joins DICK’S Sporting Goods Open Week

VESTAL, NY - The wit and wisdom of world-renowned golfer Nancy Lopez, featuring UHS Total Joint Replacement and Sports Medicine, will be the order of the day this summer when the "UHS Pearls of Wisdom with Nancy Lopez Golf Clinic and Women's Health Event" comes to Greater Binghamton.

As a kickoff to the Dick's Sporting Goods Open Golf Tournament, the UHS event will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the En-Joie Golf Course in Endicott.

Women from across the community will be able to join Ms. Lopez for a free golf clinic, gaining invaluable tips on how to improve their golf games.  This year exhibits will feature activities to help women stay fit and remain active.

Also, physicians and other UHS clinical experts will be on hand to present information about UHS Joint Replacement, Sports Medicine, and other women’s health programs.

The event will start at 4 p.m., with Ms. Lopez's golf clinic beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Each attendee will receive a Dick's Sporting Goods gift card, and there will be giveaways, prize drawings and heart-healthy refreshments.

The event is free but registration is required. To register please call (607) 205-1500 or visit

"This event was enormously popular last year, with a record attendance, and we're planning many exciting activities for this year," said Christina Boyd, vice president for Community Relations at UHS.  "It's a wonderful opportunity for women in our area to learn about good health - as well as good golf from one of the true legends of the game."

With 48 LPGA Tour victories and three major championships to her credit, Ms. Lopez is a World Golf Hall of Fame member and one of the most celebrated women in the sport of professional golf today.

In 1978 she became the only LPGA Tour member to win Rookie of the Year, Player of the Year and the Vare Trophy in the same season.

In the decade following her Rookie of the Year designation, she amassed the 48 wins and their championships, and was named Player of the Year four times.

Today Ms. Lopez actively works to promote public awareness of many medical issues, such as arthritis and cardiovascular disease, which run in her family, and is a generous donor to cancer and heart disease research.

"Pearls of Wisdom" is a UHS program that encourages women to have regular mammograms for the early detection of breast cancer.

The Dick's Sporting Goods Open will be held from Aug. 11 to 17 at En-Joie.
