UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation’s tournament raises $35,000

34 teams and numerous volunteers enjoyed a beautiful day at the recent UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation’s annual golf tournament, picnic, and raffle at Canasawacta Country Club. Participants noted numerous changes this year made by tournament co-chairs Ron Martin and John Masse. Most notably, there was a larger raffle. “We wanted raffle ticket buyers to have more chances to win, so we increased the number and variety of items,” said Martin. Several area restaurants donated gift certificates. The hospital’s computer vendor donated a tablet and Preferred Mutual contributed several sets of sporting tickets.

“The event raised over $35,000 and we expect to clear about $20,000 for the Foundation,” Martin reported at the picnic. If his prediction comes true, it will be the most money ever raised at the tournament. Special recognition goes to NBT Bank, NA and Crothall Healthcare, Inc/Morrison Management Services for their Diamond Sponsorships.

“A big thank you goes out to all the major sponsors as well as team, tee sign and cart sponsors who made the event a success,” said Debbie Cassavaugh, Executive Director. “We couldn’t have done it without them.” Volunteers were another big part of the day. Many of them were hospital employees, some of whom took vacation time so they could be there to help. “I’m always impressed by the number of employees who step up to help,” Cassavaugh added. “They are an essential part of the tournament’s success.”

Tournament winners were the team of Mark DeMellier, Jake Kelly, Kevin Decker, and Sal Testani sponsored by Kelly Asphalt. Ron Martin and Sharon Miles won closest to the pin on hole #2. Jamie Mullin and Phyllis Forsythe took the honors for longest drive on hole #6. Bob McCarthy won the Dick’s Pro Am spot donated by UHS.

The Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation’s sole purpose is to generate funds for the hospital to use in providing health care in Greater Chenango County. Gifts are invested and only the income is donated to UHS Chenango Memorial to make facility improvements, purchase new equipment or enhance programs.
