Eighth and ninth graders from area schools will participate in the 11th annual MASH camp to take place in UHS facilities. On July 16 and 17, 30 students will explore various healthcare careers through an array of different activities. These hands- on activities will explore many aspects of the healthcare industry such as psychiatry with an expose into art therapy. Students will even be able to witness a mock-life flight on the rooftop of UHS Wilson.

Campers will receive lots of attention from dedicated UHS professionals during hands-on workshops and activities. All campers will receive hospital scrubs to wear each day at camp. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Students submitted applications and essays to be considered for acceptance into the camp. UHS received more than 60 applications for the camp at Wilson, but camp space was limited to 30 students.

MASH or Medical Academy of Science and Health was first introduced to UHS in 2003 after being created in 2002. It is co-sponsored by UHS, the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC), and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. The main goal of this collaborative effort is to encourage students to explore the healthcare field in an attempt to solve the shortage of healthcare professionals.

UHS is a locally owned, not-for-profit, 916-bed hospital and healthcare system serving Greater Binghamton and surrounding counties. Founded in 1981, UHS provides a full range of medical, surgical, rehabilitative and long-term care services from more than 60 locations around New York’s Southern Tier.
